The EU General Court has upheld the economic sanctions imposed by the EU on Roman Abramovich and dismissed his claim for EUR1 million compensation against the EU Council, because his majority ownership of leading Russian steel and mining company Evraz provides a substantial source of revenue to the Russian government. It also rejected his claim that his freedom of movement as a Portuguese EU national was disproportionately infringed.
